Booking Terms & Conditions

These Terms apply to bookings made with Sign Away BSL. The page includes two sets of Terms: Short Courses and BSL Level 1. If a specific course page/checkout states something different, the course page/checkout details take priority for that course.
The term "we" (along with "us," "our," or "the Company") refers to Sign Away BSL providing the goods and services.

BSL Level 1 – Booking Terms & Conditions (Signature)
Applies to: the Signature BSL Level 1 Award in British Sign Language course
1. Booking & securing your place
1.1 Your place is secured once we receive either full payment or the reservation payment/deposit for an instalment plan (if offered).
1.2 Places are limited and allocated first-come, first-served.
2. Payment options
Upfront payment
2.1 Full course fee is due at booking.
Monthly/instalment plan (if offered at checkout)
2.2 Your reservation payment counts toward the total course fee.
2.3 Instalments must be paid on the dates shown at checkout.
2.4 If payments fail or remain overdue, we will pause access to course resources.
2.5 If you are in financial difficulty, it is of the utmost importance that you speak to us immediately.
2.6 If you rescind on an instalment payment, we will first send a written letter/email of intent giving you two weeks to make payment. A late fee of £10 will be charged for any late payment.
2.7 If you fail to make payment within the two week window, your space on the course will be suspended and any outstanding balance will become due with immediate effect, inclusive of late payment fees. You may no longer be permitted to attend classes, and any outstanding results will be withheld until any unresolved debt is paid.
2.8 After this, it is the practice of Sign Away BSL to recover unpaid course fees in the County Court. This results in a County Court Judgement being entered on the record against the debtor.
2.9 Any refund (if applicable) follows section 4.
3. Course delivery
3.1 You are responsible for attending sessions on time and participating appropriately.
3.2 We may make reasonable changes to timetable, venue, or tutor where necessary.
4. Cancellations by you
4.1 28 days before the start date: full refund of course fees paid minus a £50 administration charge
4.2 Less than 28 days before the start date: no refund, including payments already made under an instalment plan.
5. Rescheduling by you (transfer to another Level 1 cohort)
5.1 Up to 28 days before the start date: one transfer free of charge, subject to availability.
5.3 Less than 28 days before the start date: transfers/reschedules are not available.
6. Missed sessions & catch-up
6.1 Missed sessions (including lateness/early departure) are not refundable.
6.2 We may provide catch-up guidance/materials where available, but 1:1 catch-up teaching is not guaranteed.
7. Signature assessments, resits and related fees
7.1 Signature’s fees are set by Signature and reviewed annually. The current fee list is published on Signature’s Useful Documents page and in the latest Fees Booklet. (signature.org.uk)
7.2 If your course price includes Signature fees, this will be stated on the page/checkout. If not, Signature registration/assessment fees are payable in addition to the course fee at the point you register for assessment.
7.3 Resits: If you do not pass a unit, you may be able to resit in line with Signature requirements. Each resit normally requires paying the applicable Signature fee again (at the then current published rate). (signature.org.uk)
7.4 We may also charge a reasonable Sign Away BSL admin/invigilation/resit booking fee to cover centre costs (if applicable). If we do, we will confirm the amount before booking your resit.
7.5 Some awarding body services (for example changes/administration requests, replacement certificates, mark breakdowns, etc.) may attract fees at Signature’s published rates. Where a fee applies, you will be told the cost before we submit the request. (signature.org.uk)
7.6 Results queries / remarks / appeals: If you wish to query a result, contact us promptly. Any checks/remarks/appeals follow Signature’s procedures and may involve awarding body fees at published rates (and, where applicable, a reasonable centre admin charge). (signature.org.uk)
8. Learner identification and assessment conditions
8.1 You may be asked to provide identification for registration and/or assessment.
8.2 Assessment work must be your own. Cheating, unauthorised assistance, or other malpractice may result in disqualification and/or reporting to the awarding body.
9. Reasonable adjustments
9.1 Tell us as early as possible if you need reasonable adjustments, so we can discuss what support may be available.
9.2 Where needed, evidence may be requested to support an application for adjustments in line with awarding body requirements.
10. Taking the course without exams
10.1 If you complete the course without taking Signature assessments, you may request a Certificate of Attendance from Sign Away BSL (where offered). This is not the same as the awarded qualification.
11. Changes/cancellations by Sign Away BSL
11.1 If we cancel the course, you can choose a full refund or transfer to a new date (where available).
11.2 If we reschedule, you may attend the rescheduled dates or receive a full refund if you cannot attend.
12. Recording, materials, photos and marketing
12.1 No recording (audio/video) unless agreed in writing.
12.2 Materials are for your personal learning only and must not be copied/shared/sold/uploaded without permission.
12.3 If we take photos/videos for marketing, we will request consent where required.
13. Liability
13.1 We are not responsible for losses that are not reasonably foreseeable (for example: travel, accommodation, childcare, or loss of earnings).
13.2 Nothing in these Terms limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
13.3 Subject to that, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the Course.

15. Governing law
15.1 These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction.
Short Courses (Beginners, Building on Basics and Creating Conversation) – Booking Terms & Conditions
Applies to: any one-off or short course sessions. If it is a course bundle the start date is the start date of the first course in the sequence.
1. Booking & payment
1.1 Your place is confirmed once full payment is received.

3.3 From 14 days before the start date: transfers/reschedules are not available.
4. Missed sessions
4.1 Missed attendance (including lateness/early departure) is not refundable.
4.2 We are not obliged to provide make-up sessions, recordings, or 1:1 catch-ups.
5. Changes/cancellations by Sign Away BSL
5.1 If we cancel, you can choose a full refund or a transfer to another date (if available).
5.2 We may make reasonable changes to timings, venue, or tutor where necessary.
6. Behaviour and participation
6.1 You must behave respectfully and follow tutor instructions.
6.2 We may refuse entry or remove a participant for disruptive, unsafe, or inappropriate behaviour. In these cases no refund is due.
7. Recording & intellectual property
7.1 You must not record (audio/video) any part of a session unless we have agreed it in writing.
7.2 Any materials we provide are for your personal learning only and must not be copied, sold, uploaded, or shared.
8. Privacy
8.1 We use your personal data to administer your booking and communicate with you, in line with our Privacy Policy.
