Course Overview

Perfect for Beginners, this course is tailored for you, whether you've never signed a word or are just starting. Our experienced instructors ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. Over 5 weeks, you'll build a strong foundation. By the end, you'll confidently hold basic conversations, fingerspell the alphabet, discuss the weather, and food you adore, and describe things such as colour, size, and numbers in British Sign Language.

Learning should be fun, and that's our promise. We use interactive games and engaging activities to reinforce your understanding, making your Sign Language journey enjoyable and memorable.   • No prior knowledge of sign language is required. Just come with an open mind and a willingness to learn!

  • It takes place in The Mill Arts and Events Centre (SS6 7ED). The lesson is in the Meeting Room.

    Parking is available in the free Bellingham Lane Car Park, located next to the venue.

    If attending the 6:30pm course you can get a free 30 minute ticket from one of the pay and display machines.

    The Carpark is free from 7pm onwards.

  • The course runs on Wednesdays 6:30 - 7:30pm or 8 - 9pm on January 14th, January 21st, January 28th, February 4th and February 11th.

  • Course videos for every week will be released via the WhatsApp group usually within 24 hours of each lesson so you have plenty of time to practice if you would like to before the following week.

    If you do not have access to Whatsapp the videos will be made available to you via other means.

  • Throughout the course, you will learn basic conversational sign language, finger spelling, and vocabulary related to everyday topics such as weather, food, and describing objects.

  • Absolutely! This course is designed for beginners and is suitable for anyone interested in learning British Sign Language, regardless of prior experience or background and whether you are a language guru or your foreign vocabulary only extends to “Bonjour”.

  • Yes, the course fee covers all instructional materials and resources needed for the duration of the course. This course has no exams.

  • The Beginners course is designed for those with no prior knowledge of sign language, while the Building on Basics course is intended for graduates of the Beginners course or those with some basic understanding of sign language. Participating in this course is the perfect preparation for the Building on Basics course.

  • While we encourage attendance at all sessions to get the most out of the course, we understand that life happens. If you need to miss a session, don't worry! We provide in-house made videos for you to catch up on any missed material.

  • After confirming your place you will receive an email approximately a week before the class starts confirming final details and giving you access to the course WhatsApp so you can meet your course mates and ask any questions.
